Jules
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. The fresh air that filling my lungs was warm but crisp and smelled like salt and flowers. I stood there listening to the sounds around me: gently lapping waves; a warm breeze rustling all kinds of giant leaves; exotic birds chirping and squawking; a giant bonfire crackling in the middle of the day for some reason; people laughing and playing in the distance; and feet crunching on sand as they approached and came to a standstill close to me. I leaned back into the warm body behind me and felt strong arms wrap around me. I tilted my head back and smiled, looking into the most beautiful green eyes the world had ever seen. And to my pleasure the eyes matched the rest of the face.
“You are surprisingly sexy for such an old man.”
“Hey, I’m not even thirty yet.” My smile widened.
“Ah, but that changes in two days. Then you’ll officially be classified as old to anyone not past their late teens.” The rich, tenor laugh vibrated down the length of my spine.
A hand reached up to tuck some hair behind my ear, and for a second gold flashed beautifully in the sunlight. I turned around and suddenly rough lips were pressed against mine. The kiss was slow and relaxed and so full of passion, and lasted an eternity. I pulled away as little as possible and rested my forehead against his. Our breaths mingled inside our own little bubble of happiness and my heart suddenly felt like it would burst.
“I love you so much, Wade.” I whispered it, almost too softly for him to hear.
“I love you too, Julie,” he whispered just as softly and kissed me again.
Finally, I turned and started walking towards the hotel again.
“We should get going, whatever busboy got our luggage is probably bored out of his mind waiting for us.”
Wade entwined his fingers with mine as we walked. “That is actually a good idea.”
“Actually? Why do you sound so surprised? I’m full of good ideas.”
“No arguments here, love.” Wade gave a peck on the cheek, and I giggled. “This second honeymoon of ours is one of the best. Maybe we can get it right this time. I still can’t believe you managed to get the same hotel and room and everything as last time.”
“I just can’t believe we actually managed to get here. Half a million dollars doesn’t get you as far as you think. I knew there was a reason we came before prime time last year.”
“But we got here and there’s still enough left for us to have some fun with.”
“Only if you promise never to complain about me always being late. Just think, if I came home in time you wouldn’t have handed in those divorce papers without realizing I didn’t sign them yet.”
“I promise not to complain about your lateness ever again. Unless we’re going to a wedding, funeral, appointment, party, or restaurant that requires a reservation.”
I laughed all the way to the hotel, where it was suddenly cut off when I saw the man standing with our luggage.
